Seven finalists selected for Lac qui Parle Valley School District superintendent position


MADISON — The Lac qui Parle Valley School Board has selected seven finalists to interview for the school district’s superintendent vacancy. The finalists were selected from a pool of 17 applicants based on criteria established by the school board. The finalists are:


Bryan Boysen, Principal, Jackson County Central, Jackson, MN

John Dotson, Superintendent, BOLD School District, Olivia, MN

James Muckenhirn, Superintendent, South Koochiching-Rainy River School District, Northome, MN

Brian Nelson, Superintendent, Lewis & Clark Public Schools, Berthold, ND

Nels Onstad, Director of Educator Licensing, Minnesota Department of Education, Roseville, MN

Knute Reierson, Superintendent, Frederick Area School, Frederick, SD

Greg Schmidt, Superintendent, Minnewaska Area Schools, Glenwood, MN


The school board has scheduled interviews for the finalists beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, with continuation at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, in the Media Center at the Lac qui Parle Valley Jr./Sr. High School, Madison.


All interviews are open to the public.

The months of February and March will be busy times for LQPV Schools as the search for a new superintendent will become a major focus. The timeline of this search as prepared by MSBA which is leading this search is as follows.


Monday February 13th was the closing date for application for the superintendent position. MSBA will review applicants and then send them to LQPV schools by Wednesday Feb. 15th. The school board will review applicants Thursday and Friday Feb. 16 and 17h and make a decision on Tuesday February 21, 2017 which applicants to bring in for initial round of interviews.

The first round of interviews will be held Friday February 24th from 4:30-9:00pm and also in Saturday February 25th from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Board, staff and community members will be involved in the interview process with applicants.

The final round of interviews will occur on Thursday March 2nd, at 4:30 pm and will involve a community/staff forum in conjunction the finalists second round of interviews.

During the week of March 6th, site visits by board members may occur if needed and on Friday March 10th at 5:00pm the board will meet to select the finalist and determine contract parameters, talk about negotiating a contract with MSBA meeting with board to explain initial contract to finalist.

On Monday March 27th, Board will hopefully approve this contract with new superintendent scheduled to start, July 1st,2017
