Lac qui Parle Valley Service Learning

Service learning focuses on four important steps:

Planning . . .

               Action . . .

                         Reflection . . .

                                           Celebration

Senior high student council members will be helping junior high students to understand service learning this spring. They will meet with the seventh graders in Wade Stottler`s Social Studies class. They will use a variety of hands-on activities to illustrate the meaning of community and of service. Their experience will include action and reflection, the middle components of service learning. Contact LqPV Community Education 320-752-4567 or toll free 1-877-889-4153 if you have suggestions for seventh grade group projects in your organization or neighborhood.

Eighth graders in Gale May`s classroom, under the leadership of senior high students, will identify needs in their community and make plans for an individual or group project. They will be responsible for completing the project by the end of the school year and will reflect on their experience using the Service Learning Report Form.

Students are recognized for their volunteer hours on their transcripts, with scholarships, and at the spring Fine Arts Recognition Night. This is the celebration component of Lac qui ParleValley service learning.
