Grades 10-12 - American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Youth Conference – March 5-8, 2009 in Valley Forge, PA – This is a unique program for high school students offering a rare opportunity for participation in a 40day residential program at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, PA. Applicant must submit the typed application and essay by date due; secure sponsorship by an American Legion Auxiliary Unit, American Legion Post, or SAL Squadron; be a student in good standing in grades 10, 11 or 12; show demonstrated leadership potential through extra-curricular activities and community service.  Essay topic (500 word limit):

The Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation National Art Contest – All high school seniors (grade 12) are eligible.  Any form of flat art, except photography, is eligible.  The artwork must reflect the theme “Depict a compelling problem, need or unresolved conflict that through caring intervention demonstrate the high ideals of unity without uniformity”.  Suggested topics are racial discrimination, religious intolerance, community injustice, public indifference, civic discord or societal ignorance).   It must be original artwork, conceived and created by the student.  For more information visit the web site at www.fourchaplains.org

The Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation Annual Project Lifesaver Program – All high school seniors (grade 12) are eligible.  One student will serve as a team leader and select five students to become team members and one teacher (with faculty approval) to act as team advisor.  The team must identify a problem or need in their community or in the U.S. such as: “Identify a compelling problem, need or unresolved conflict that through caring intervention can be transformed and corrected?”   Suggested topics are racial discrimination, religious intolerance, community injustice, public indifference, civic discord or societal ignorance); and with the advice and counsel of the team advisor, team leader and team members, create, organize and conduct a new project to ameliorate the identified problem or need.  Only one project per school allowed.  For more information visit the web site at www.fourchaplains.org
