And the year is off and running at Appleton-Milan Elementary School!!

I am so excited to embark on another school year in the Lac qui Parle Valley School District.  As you all know, we have two fairly large challenges to work with  as we navigate through this year.

  1. The COVID-19 Pandemic

  2. The Appleton-Milan Elementary School Building Project~Renovation and Addition

These challenges will not keep us from creating a safe and wonderful learning environment for all of our students and staff.  Another measure to ensure our students' safety is updated information.  If you have any necessary information that should be updated, please contact the school office at 320-289-1114.  This would include phone numbers, email addresses, etc.

Our Return to Learn Plan addresses the ways in which we are ensuring our staff and students are safe while in our building.  This plan also lays out how we will educate our students if we need to change our instructional model due to the pandemic.   Heather Piotter, our district nurse, and the administrative team will follow guidance from Countryside Public Health, the MN Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control if we need to make any changes to our learning model.  We may need to transition to either a Hybrid Model or Distance Learning Model based on guidance from these organizations.

Throughout the school year, contractors will be working to complete the addition.  We will move into the addition for the start of next school year~very exciting!  Please stay tuned to the local newspapers as well as our district website for updates on this project including pictures to see what is happening!

Finally, it is important that everyone follows the morning drop off and afternoon pick up procedures outlined below.  These are for the safety of our students.

Morning Drop Off:  7:55 am is the earliest time that students are allowed into the building.

  • Please do not drop off students prior to this time.

  • If your child walks, please do not send him/her to school too early as they will be waiting outside until 7:55 am.

Afternoon Pick Up:  staggered times are listed below.

  • 3:00 pm:  Parent Pick Up~it is extremely important you are on time

  • 3:07 pm:  Walkers are dismissed

  • 3:10 pm:  City Bussers are dismissed

  • 3:20-3:25 pm:  All other Bussers are dismissed to line up

Thank you for supporting your child through this process.  The staff at Appleton-Milan Elementary School is anxious to get the school year started!

Always learning,

Maureen Heinecke~Appleton-Milan Elementary Principal
